Clint Comics
Another bit of Bissette and Veitch obscura (and maybe another reason to remember the seventies?) is this page from “Into The Shop” from MARVEL PREVIEW FEATURING STAR-LORD #18, published in 1979. This was more of Steve’s show, with him penciling and inking everything from Ron Goulart’s adaption of his own short story. I helped Steve on the layouts and added the airbrush clouds. Haven’t seen the originals in a while but even with the lousy pulp reproduction, Steve’s stark black and white figures pop against the dark moody toning. In those days we artists didn’t really worry about the legal repercussions of using a famous person in our comics. Steve and I were big fans of Clint Eastwood and really dug the feel of Sergio Leone’s films, both of which we incorporated here.
