The Lost Sim Bit
Found this cool unpublished Dave Sim ROAD BIT in one of my old sketchbooks. From the title, he seems to be hedging on whether its a real dream or not. This would have been done right in the middle of the SPIRITS OF INDEPENDENCE tour. I’m wondering why we didn’t try the free beer idea!

See, all those quick sketches I’ve been posting, where I try to access the deepest weirdest cubbyholes of the id, can pay off when it comes to doing a seriously scary illustration. This is a close up of the inked dragon story I’m just finishing for WNET’s NATURE COMICS.

Got a number of emails from hawk-eyed readers alerting me to the fact that the mystery letterer of DREAM BOAT was none other than Todd Klein. As fans of SUPREME and GREYSHIRT know, Todd and I have been regular collaborators for the last ten years and it’s fun to know that we were working together waaaay back when.
Another thing I noticed, looking at the original art scan I posted yesterday, was that I inked the machinery throughout the story as well as penciled it. Here’s a scan of the printed version of the opening page of DREAM BOAT. Anyone know the colorist?

Here’s a page from an early collaboration between Tom Yeates and myself. This was done for MYSTERY IN SPACE #117, March 1981 and is currently available in the MYSTERY IN SPACE tpb collection from DC. Script by Bruce Jones, pencils by me and inks by Tom. Not sure who lettered this one.
