Hey Rick, I remember you saying in your Comic’s Journal interview that you refused to sign some sort of diabolical contract regarding use of your work on the Turtles. Was this translation done before you ran into such problems, or has all that been cleared up now? Or was the contract about toys based on the characters you created?
My Turtles work was done under a creator ownership agreement; small up front page rates and a 50/50 split with Mirage on the back end. This French edition got in before Mirage tried to change the terms with an after-the-fact Work For Hire agreement.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but a 50/50 split is a great deal in comics ( or any ) publishing…of course it couldn’t last…like Epic…or Tundra. Such anomalies, but Rick Veitch WAS THERE!
