I’d like to run some of the parody comics Alan and I did that were in the back of Supreme 52A and 52B. But I don’t have copies. Anyone out there who could provide me with scans?

I’m going to put up a bunch of original art pages for sale this week, with the theme being “retro”. Being known as the “retro artist” can be a bit of a pain sometimes because I work in lots of other styles and don’t like being pigeonholed. But at the same time, I love doing it and have been fortunate enough to have collaborated on quite a few faux-silver age stories with Alan Moore. Here’s the first page I’m offering:

This is one of the last pages I have from 1963: MYSTERY INCORPORATED. It’s story page 13 with script by Alan Moore, pencils by me, inks by Dave Gibbons and lettering (on the board) by Don Simpson. Since I’ve been posting some of the ghost panels I’ve done for other artists, it’s only fair to show some of the ghost help I’ve gotten in my own stories. Here’s the big reveal panel from “LOVE DOESN’T LAST FOREVER”, in which we see that Bruno is suffering from some alien sexually transmitted disease. Who better to pull that off than Steve Bissette?

Steve and I ghosted lots of stuff for each other over the years, but this has got to be my favorite bit by him. I did the Bruno character and Steve collaged the rest. It should be mentioned that my editor, Archie Goodwin, had warned me not to show Bruno’s penis in this shot, but Bissette couldn’t resist slapping that orchid in there. Archie, to his everlasting credit, laughed out loud when he saw it and let it pass for publication.

Alan Moore fans (and who isn’t?) be aware that he authored this little seen 8 page story which is available only in the SHINY BEASTS trade paperback from King Hell.

It’s done in brush, pen and india ink on 11 x 17″ Image illustration board and is in perfect condition with no editorial blue line or any other defects.
