Primitive Airbrush

Found a treasure trove of early work in a box labeled “BULLSHIT SCRAPS!” this weekend. Here’s one of my very first attempts at color airbrush while still at Kubert School. I think this is the one I figured out that I could make a tonal version of the “Kirby Krackle”. I was putting in the stars last and as I did, I remember how the space gas suddenly became much more tangible to the eye. It was a color technique that became a mainstay of my Epic-era stuff.

    …well for a first try, it is a genuisely one to my opinion..it probably was difficult using airbrush at these times and not being overshadowed by the work of Richard Corben…

    always dreamed to see you working onto the Marvel heroes, like THE ETERNALS ( i personnallly dream about a GHOST RIDER ongoing written and draw by you …)but i wouldn’t have thinked about the Surfer…
