Dick Giordano showed up for class at Kubert School one day with a portfolio bulging with our previous assignments. We’d turned in a fully penciled a page of comics the week earlier, and he’d somehow found time to ink parts of them on vellum overlays. He’d done this for everyone in the class! What an amazing commitment from a teacher!
And what an great way to help us “see” our own stuff as interpreted by the hand and eye of a master. He went over each page with each student personally, explaining what he liked, what he changed on the fly and where he got lost completely; all with characteristic good humor. Here Dick’s inked the first two panels of my page and (as to further the assignment) had me ink the last two.
